H. Marion Framing Studio
Gives Back to Local Community

WILMETTE, IL  —  The stars of the most recent gallery opening at H. Marion Framing Studio were student artists from Avoca School District 37’s Marie Murphy Junior High School. Gallery owner Jan Marion, an alum of the district, hosted the event in an effort to give back to the community.

“Fostering art appreciation among schoolchildren is vital,” Marion, who supports local artists of all ages, says. “There is a strong link between kids who make art and their level of focus and success later in life. It’s also a great way to give back to the community.” (more…)

H. Marion Framing Reaches Out To Creative Talent Of Local Junior High School

H. Marion Framing Studio, the North Shore’s premier art consulting and framing business, is hosting an art exhibition at its Wilmette location in the Edens Plaza Shopping Center for one night only on Thursday, March 12, 2009, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. But the artists there can’t stay too long: they’ve got homework.

More than 80 Marie Murphy Junior High students from the Avoca School District No. 37 will have an exciting opportunity to bring their artwork from the classroom to the showroom for all the public to view. Community members are invited to stop in the store and peruse this eclectic, original collection.

“This is a great way to give back to the community,” says gallery co-owner Jan Marion, who opened the chain’s second location in late fall ’08. “The kids are the real stars of the show.”

Jan Marion and his creative team of art consultants are known for giving back to the local community. In today’s scholastic world, where gym and art are typically the first programs cut from a budget, Marion realizes it’s more important than ever to foster art appreciation among schoolchildren.

Healthcare Design Aug. '08 cover

Jan Marion, owner and founder of H. Marion Framing Studio, understands that green design involves more than just meeting the latest industry standards. “Specifically for healthcare design, not only must it look good, but also it needs to reflect the values of and reinforce the brand image of the facility.” says Marion. Such is the philosophy behind the firm’s latest project at St. Francis Hospital’s Wolf Gallery, in Evanston, Illinois.

Chicago Hospital News: Saint Mary Hospital

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Whether your facility is building a replacement hospital, giving a face lift to an existing space or preparing for a complete unit renovation, the main three factors which will insure a successful project are: design, design and design. After the floor plan has been created and wonderful interior finishes have been selected, chances are something resembling art will go on the wall. A good art consultant will make sure that art is not arbitrarily selected for the walls. We need to work with the architect and the hospital administrators to tailor an art program to suit the community served, the function of the unit and the philosophy and vision that the hospital wants to convey. We need to keep up with the latest research on art in hospitals and healthcare design trends through continuing education, attending art shows and industry round tables. This type of research allows the consultant to understand which types of images reduce stress and promote healing in certain patient populations or in certain medical arenas. In other words, a geriatric unit will require different art than a pediatrics unit; a heart transplant unit will look different than a birthing unit or an emergency department.
