Art That Heals : Anti-microbial Finishes

March 5th, 2012

Marty landscape framed in Barrington Cherry

Health care facilities have long been using products with antimicrobial properties to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungus which may be present in health care institutions.  Based on this demand we are offering a picture frame moulding that  is protected with an antimicrobial coating.

This finish is available on many wood tones and profile shapes and has been tested by an independent laboratory to withstand common staining agents and cleaning solutions found in a healthcare environment.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: ABC NEWS FEATURES H. MARION ART CONSULTANTS’ LDR DESIGN

January 16th, 2012

LDR suite

ABC News highlighted H. Marion’s holistic design approach for two recent projects; St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison and Saint Joseph Hospital’s Family Birthplace in Chicago. For each project our design team selected a range of artworks and color palettes that provided a more restful, spa-like atmosphere for patients. The resulting rooms in both hospitals have a level of comfort normally ascribed to hotels rather than hospitals.

Owner Jan Marion was interview by Susanna Kim for the article and spoke about the trend towards spa-like healthcare design: ”Hospitals recognize that not only is artwork a necessary part of interior finish, but they also understand that it’s a marketing expense,” Marion said. “A new family makes healthcare decisions that will have long lasting impact on a healthcare provider.”

In the article ABC News examines both the health and marketshare advantanges of spa-inpired design trends in the industry as a whole.

Rush Transformation : First Impressions

December 6th, 2011

Rush University Medical Center’s East Tower is nearing completion and preparing for patient occupancy in January.

As art consultant for the Rush Transformation, our first task was to create a first impression for the new front door and gateway to the East Patient Tower. This 31 panel installation needed to act as art, graphics and signage, while visually connecting to the 1400 pieces of framed art we selected and installed throughout the 14 floor structure.

In order to achieve the resolution necessary to print the 30′ x 20′ graphic, our photographer captured 63 separate shots from the vantage point of the hospital, then digitally combined them to create the impressive cityscape featured.

Complementing this installation is a series of acrylic panels, matched to Rush’s branded green, interspersed with etched and hand carved glass panels of prairie grass, which come to life when edge-lit from below.

Urban and organic imagery combine harmoniously, both reinforcing Rush’s brand image and creating a healing arts program which celebrates the rich diversity and culture of the neighborhoods which the hospital services.

Invest two minutes to watch this time-lapsed footage of our team’s 30 hour installation in the Brennan Pavilion.

Giving Back : Tu Nidito Ride for a Child

October 21st, 2011

Sophia

Eleven-year-old Sophia is a brave, determined girl. She loves to ride horses and draw. She is also a cross-country runner. Sophia’s favorite color is red.

Sophia began coming to Tu Nidito this fall to attend grief support groups for kids who have experienced the death of a loved one. Sophia’s dad died of pancreatic cancer two years ago, just two years after her mom and dad adopted her. Before her parents brought her home, Sophia had been in foster care a few times, and the stability of home life with her parents was much needed. Her dad’s death, after only having him for two short years, was devastating. The grief support group that Sophia attends provides a community of support and stability, and it helps her feel even stronger and braver than she already is. Tu Nidito’s grief support program provides a safe, comfortable environment for children like Sophia to process their grief and heal.
